This Heil serial number lookup also reads Tempstar, Comfortmaker and Arcoaire. All four were made by International Comfort Products and share one code: a letter, then the year, then the week.
Use the serial from the rating plate on a furnace, air handler or outdoor unit. The result is a build week and year, which is an estimate. Not every brand in the family is confirmed, so check the printed date when the plate has one.
The serial number is on the rating plate of the furnace, air handler or outdoor unit. On most units it starts with a letter. Photograph the plate, and write down both the serial and the model number.
Some plates print a manufacture date next to the serial. One documented plate shows “MFG. DATE 2/92”. Where there is a printed date, use it. It beats any decoded date, and it is the way to check whether the family rule holds for your particular brand.
For any Heil serial number lookup, remember that Heil shares a code with sister brands, so the badge on the cabinet may not match the name on an old work order. Read the plate, then pick the brand in the tool.
Most Heil serials are one letter, then two digits for the year, then two digits for the week, then five or six more digits.
| Part | Meaning | Example: G051650885 |
|---|---|---|
| Letter | Not part of the date | G |
| Next two digits | Year | 05 = 2005 |
| Next two digits | Week of the year | 16 |
| Remaining digits | Running number | 50885 |
More examples from the references: L903789847 is week 37 of 1990. L920671787 is week 6 of 1992, and its plate prints MFG. DATE 2/92. E072514528 is week 25 of 2007.
The serial starts with the letter L, which is not part of the date. The next two digits are 92, so 1992. The two after that are 06, so week 6. The tool reports week 6 of 1992.
The plate prints MFG. DATE 2/92. Week 6 of a year falls in early February, so the two agree. That is how we know the rule works for at least one real unit, and it is the kind of check worth doing on yours.
A 1992 furnace is about 34 and a half years old in October 2026, well past every published range. A serial like that on a live unit is a replacement conversation, not a maintenance one.
There is a second layout. Some serials put the year and week first, then a letter. 9414B39332 is week 14 of 1994 under that layout. We built that example from the rule, not from a documented plate.
International Comfort Products (ICP) made Heil, Tempstar, Comfortmaker, Arcoaire, Keeprite and others. InspectApedia says they share one code. A Tempstar serial number, a Comfortmaker serial number and an Arcoaire serial number all read the same way as a Heil serial.
These are in the tool’s brand label, because the references list them under the same ICP code. Pick the Heil brand and enter the serial.
Covered only by the ICP claim and not named in the label. We could not confirm that every brand in the family follows the code, and one reference’s Heil page lists different, partly image-based styles. Check the printed date on the plate.
Confidence is medium. Two independent references agree on the layout and one example has a printed date to prove it, but there is no ICP document behind it.
Two formats are left out. One is a numeric-only style, such as 30512345, that depends on a year chart. The other is a Z-letter style. Both come from a reference whose descriptions are partly image-based, and we could not verify them.
If your serial doesn’t fit the letter-year-week or year-week-letter shape, the tool says it can’t date it. The week in a serial must be 01 to 53, which rules out many typos.
The date is when the unit was built. Install is usually a few months later. Treat the result as one piece of evidence.
No source gives a Heil-specific figure. These are the published ranges by equipment type, and they disagree.
| Equipment | NAHB (2007) | InterNACHI | Fannie Mae multifamily |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace | 15 to 20 years (gas 18, electric 15) | 15 to 25 | 20; 25 at unit level |
| Central air conditioner | 10 to 15 | 7 to 15 | Not listed separately |
| Heat pump | 16 | 10 to 15 | 15 (condensing component) |
The Department of Energy prompts a look at heat pumps and air conditioners past 10 years and furnaces past 15. See HVAC lifespan.
Because the family shares a code, one property can hold Tempstar in one building and Heil in the next, and both decode the same way. That saves you from keeping a separate set of notes per badge.
Record the serial, model, plate photo and any printed manufacture date in the asset inventory. The life-used bar then turns amber at 60 percent and red above 80 percent of expected life, which gives a supervisor a plain list of systems to watch.
For budgeting, Budget Projection compares budget with actual spend by category, so the age data becomes a funding question. When equipment is damaged at move-out, age and condition drive the Prorate Calculator. Check your lease and state law before billing.
Skip the leading letter. The next two digits are the year and the two after are the week. G051650885 is week 16 of 2005. Enter your serial above for an estimate, and compare it with any printed date on the plate.
These brands were made by International Comfort Products and the references say they share one code. We could not confirm every brand in the family, so check the plate’s printed date when there is one.
Some serials put the year and week first, then a letter, such as 9414B39332. The tool reads that layout. Numeric-only styles that need a year chart, and Z-letter styles, are not read.
The Heil code stores a week of the year. Week 6 is early February. A month taken from a week is approximate, so prefer a printed date on the plate.
Medium. Two third-party references agree and one example is confirmed by a printed date, but no ICP document backs it. Treat it as an estimate and confirm with the manufacturer or the plate.
